Grand Egypt Discovery

Fourteen days from the Mediterranean to Abu Simbel, with a Nile cruise, both banks of Luxor and time on the Red Sea.

  • 14 days / 13 nights
  • Cairo · Giza · Alexandria · Aswan
  • Private or Group

About this journey

This is the itinerary for travelers who expect to make the journey to Egypt once and want no regrets afterward. Fourteen days is long enough to include Alexandria on the Mediterranean, the full pyramid sequence from Saqqara and Dahshur to Giza, Abu Simbel in Nubia, a multi-night Nile cruise, both banks of Luxor across separate mornings, and still finish with time on the Red Sea. It is also long enough to build in rest. There are deliberate free half-days, meals that are not rushed, and a final Cairo program sized to your outbound flight. Because the trip is long, we plan hotel changes carefully: you stay a minimum of two nights almost everywhere, and the cruise carries your room between Aswan and Luxor. Everything here can be re-sequenced around cruise sailings, flight loads and site closures.

Why travellers choose this itinerary

  • Alexandria, Cairo, Nubia, the Nile Valley and the Red Sea in one continuous journey.
  • Minimum two-night stays almost everywhere, so you are not repacking daily.
  • Abu Simbel and the full Saqqara–Dahshur–Giza pyramid sequence both included.
  • Deliberate free half-days rather than fourteen consecutive touring mornings.
  • Separate mornings for Luxor's east and west banks, with time inside each site.
  • One accountable operator and one point of contact for the whole two weeks.

      Suitability and accessibility

      Physical requirements
Moderate: sustained touring over two weeks with 2 to 4 miles walking on most days, two or three early starts, several internal flights, and long open-air heat exposure between April and October. Rest half-days are built in.
      Recommended ages
Suitable from around age 10 upward; frequently booked by travelers in their 60s and 70s. Child pricing and reduced-pace alternatives are available on request.
      Mobility and accessibility
Many ancient sites have uneven paving, sand, steps and no handrails, and some interiors cannot be adapted. We can arrange wheelchair-friendly vehicles, extra assistance and alternative viewing points at most locations, but a small number of tombs and interiors remain inaccessible. Tell us your requirements before booking and we will confirm in writing what is and is not possible on this route.
      Medical and pregnancy notes
Heat, dust and long days can affect travelers with cardiac, respiratory or mobility conditions. Bring your own medication in original packaging. Pregnant travelers should seek medical advice before booking, and adventure, diving and balloon activities are generally not suitable during pregnancy.
      Dietary requirements
Vegetarian, vegan, halal, kosher-style, gluten-free and allergy-related requirements can be catered for at hotels, on the river and on private meals when notified in advance. Severe allergies should be declared at the time of booking so we can brief every supplier.
      Weather and seasonality
Best travel months for this route are October, November, December, January, February, March, April. Summer daytime temperatures in Upper Egypt and the desert can exceed 40C, so summer departures are re-timed to start earlier and rest through the afternoon.
      Dress and cultural notes
Egypt is a conservative country outside beach resorts. Lightweight clothing covering shoulders and knees is appropriate at religious sites, and closed walking shoes are strongly recommended for temples and desert ground. Your guide will brief you on photography rules at each site.
