What to Wear in Egypt
13 August 2026
Practical clothing advice for temples, cruises, cities and the Red Sea, in every season.
General principle
Light, loose and covered. It protects you from sun and dust and is comfortable at religious sites.
Sightseeing days
Breathable trousers or long skirts, light long-sleeved shirts, a hat, sunglasses and closed walking shoes for sandy sites.
Mosques and churches
Shoulders and knees covered. Women should carry a scarf for the hair in mosques. Shoes come off at the door.
On the cruise
Swimwear is fine at the pool, casual clothing elsewhere. Evenings can be cool between November and February.
Red Sea
Resort clothing is relaxed. Bring reef-safe sunscreen and water shoes for rocky entries.
