Best Time to Visit Egypt

Month-by-month temperatures, crowd levels and Nile cruise conditions so you can pick the right window for your trip.

The short answer

October to April is the comfortable season for sightseeing in Cairo, Luxor and Aswan. December and January are the busiest and the coolest.

October and November

Warm days, pleasant evenings and excellent Nile cruising. One of our favourite windows.

December and January

Peak season. Daytime sightseeing is easy, evenings in Upper Egypt can be cold, and prices for hotels and cruises are at their highest. Book early.

February to April

Reliable weather and long days. Late March and April can bring short dusty khamsin winds.

May to September

Very hot in Luxor and Aswan, but this is when the Red Sea is at its best and hotel prices drop. We start sightseeing at sunrise and rest in the afternoon.

  • Start pyramid and temple visits at opening time in any season.
  • The Red Sea works all year round.
  • Ramadan changes opening hours and restaurant rhythms; we plan around it.
